Bio
I used to be the kind of guy/Who'd never let you look inside/I'd smile when I was crying

In the spring of 1989, Ishikawa Mineko was married to Rock Satochi in a secluded shrine atop a forested hill. Mineko was the youngest daughter of Ishikawa Tatsurou, the head of a hundred-year old dynasty of bathhouse and sake enterprises. Satochi was a hard up poet who had no family to speak of.

Needless to say, their union was not met with much enthusiasm by Mineko's relatives. Tatsurou disowned his daughter and made it extremely clear that Satochi would be grievously injured - if not killed – were he ever seen again.

The couple was only too happy to move away.

On November 27, 1991, a bright-eyed little boy was born. He was named Lee, after his father's father.

I had nothing but a life to lose/Thought I had a lot to prove/In my life, there's no denying

Lee had always been too enthusiastic for his own good. His mother occasionally teased him about how he kicked his way out of her womb a week ahead of schedule. His father complained affectionately about his neverending chatter and energy. His family was by no means rich, and Lee was sometimes not as full as he liked to be, but he never felt like he lacked anything at all.

At age eight, Lee was awakened one morning by a police officer and a man dressed in black, who told him to pack up all his possessions. He finished in half an hour. He didn't have many.

That afternoon, Lee was driven to his grandfather's house - the grandfather he didn't know existed - and told about his parents' car accident. The darkly-dressed man escorted him to his new quarters while he was still numb with shock.

He would not have another restful night of sleep for months.

Goodbye to all my yesterdays/Goodbye, so long, I'm on my way

Lee might have been living in his grandfather's mansion, but he was not allowed to do much of anything else. The adults in the family did not like him, and they didn't bother hiding it. Lee was a child who did not distinguish himself in any way. The fact that he highly resembled his father didn't help him very much, either.

For half a decade, Lee was a tolerated guest in the Ishikawa estate, kept apart from his cousins, who viewed him with as much disdain as their parents did. He was quietly shuttled every day to attend a school far away - no private tutors or prestigious institutions for him - where his low grades, abysmal athletics, and quirky appearance earned him the nickname of "Hotblooded Loser."

He never let it get to him, though. The memory of his mother and father - of what they would say if he ever did - kept him going.

I've had enough of cryin'/Bleedin', sweatin', dyin'/Hear me when I say/Gonna live my life everyday

Slowly, he found solace in sports - in running, playing basketball, playing baseball, playing anything - throwing himself into the games with almost frightening devotion. Slowly, he grew faster, stronger, better. Slowly, he got the hang of studying. The insults never stopped, but after a while, his classmates began to look at him differently.

By the time he turned thirteen, Lee was achieving fairly high grades and had a few good acquaintances, though he never felt very close to any of them; his loud, exuberant personality irritated most people. He wasn't truly happy, but he had gotten accustomed to his life, and knew that if he could stick it out for five more years, he'd be free.

Lee was getting along pretty well when, two months after his birthday, Lee's most ill-natured cousin caught him in the middle of the parlor, and repeated every scathing remark he'd ever overheard about Satochi.

Lee restrained himself from smashing the boy's face in, but his violent, retaliatory outburst was enough for Lee's grandfather to send him away.

I'm gonna touch the sky/And I spread these wings and fly/I ain't here to play/Gonna live my life everyday

Lee's great-aunt Rie, who was supported by her brother, spent her days socializing with the richest old women in the neighborhood, owned six cats, and disliked Lee solely because her family did (though she had no idea they thought of her just as fondly). She enrolled him in the nearby intermediate school to finish his last year, and it was there that he learned about Oshima High - its athletic programs, its art classes, its professors, its students. Seeing as he was stuck where he was, Lee preferred to go to a fairly-well known institution that focused on the subjects he was most interested in, instead of the high school nearby, which had a more general curriculum.

Change, everybody's feeling strange/Never gonna be the same/Makes you wonder how the world keeps turning

He drew up a list of every reason why he wanted to go to Oshima. He swore to work harder than he ever had. He pointed out how close the school was to her house, how he could get there by himself without bothering her. He phrased all this as eloquently as he could.

Two seconds after he finished his speech, Rie made it expressly clear that she was going to kick him out as soon as he turned eighteen, and told him that if he wanted to go to Oshima, he was going to have to pay for it himself. She expected him to wilt, storm off, cry; indeed, it was something that might have seemed impossible to most fourteen year olds, but Lee had never been one to back down from a challenge.

He applied to Oshima, and was accepted with a full scholarship.

Life, learning how to live my life/Learning how to pick my fights/Take my shots while I'm still burning

At age fifteen, Rock Lee is a sophomore at Oshima High, majoring in Drama because he practices enough by himself for two basketball classes a day. (That he gets to spend more time with his favorite teacher may be a factor as well.) He rides the boat to school one and a half hours before classes begin to work out alone, and stays hours after classes end to study. He also has a job on the weekends to get a little of his own spending money, so he is seldom at his aunt's house. Rie prefers it that way; the less she sees of him, the better. Lee is still too happy about the fact that he is even allowed to go to school to mind.

Goodbye to all those rainy nights/Goodbye, so long, I'm moving on

Lee is courteous to a fault, almost always immensely cheerful and loquacious, and can become deadly serious depending on the situation. He is not too shy to flirt with total strangers, but his heart is currently set on a certain light-haired aspiring dancer. His closest friend is Gai-sensei, followed by Tenten, one of his fellow athletes. He is a member of the basketball, baseball, and track teams, and enjoys swimming when he has the time. His favorite color is green, and he wears every shade of it imaginable whenever possible. He can compose enough corny love poems to make Jiraiya's ears fall off, and can also eat ten bowls of extremely hot curry without breaking a sweat.

He is still single, still smiling, and still dreaming.

There ain't nothing gonna get in my way/Everyday
